Actress Claire Foy has come forward with her response to the controversy over the pay-gap between herself and herThe Crownco-star Matt Smith.

It was revealed in early March, Left Bank Pictures' executives confirmed at a conference in Jerusalem that Smith, who playedPrince Philip opposite Foy's Queen Elizabeth II, was paid a higher salary due to hisDoctor Who fame.

Left Bank creative director Suzanne Mackie promised the situation would not happen again in the upcoming third and fourth seasons. "Going forward, no one gets paid more than the queen," she said.

"I'm surprised because I'm at the center of it, and anything that I'm at the center of like that is very, very odd, and feels very, very out of ordinary," Foy, 33, toldEntertainment Weekly.

According to Variety, Foy was paid $40,000 per episode, but Smith's actual salary has not been disclosed.

"But I'm not [surprised about the interest in the story] in the sense that it was a female-led drama," she continued. "I'm not surprised that people saw [the story] and went, 'Oh, that's a bit odd.' But I know that Matt feels the same that I do, that it's odd to find yourself at the center [of a story] that you didn't particularly ask for."

While Foy and Smith's time withThe Crownhas come to an end, Foy is very enthusiastic about her replacement for the third and fourth seasons of the smash hit.

"I'll be asking to see itearlierthan it's available," said the actress. "I can't wait to see it. I think Olivia Colman's amazing."

Season three of The Crown will stream on Netflix in 2019.
